Palawan

Palawan, next to Cotabato is the largest province in the Philippines. It is comprised of up to 1,768 islands surrounded by beautiful coral reefs with an exceptionally rich marine life. Without a doubt, Palawan is indeed a paradise and a sanctuary to a magnificent collection of fauna and flora which is found nowhere else in the world but Palawan only. Visitors are astounded by the incredibly awesome landscapes and virgin rain forests making it unique with other places in the Philippines. Geographically speaking, there are a total of 53 rivers, 4 small lakes and countless small streams in Palawan. The climate here is a 4 month dry season with rain possibility on the remaining 8 months. Nestled between Mindoro island and North Borneo, Palawan is the home of lofty mountains, rainforests and the world’s longest underground river. This place is also a sanctuary of Palawan monkeys, parrots, bear cats, peacocks, mongoose, porcupine and mouse deer. Palawan is considered to be the Haven of Philippine Wildlife because a total of 323 species is residing Palawan’s wild life.

El Nido is the most beautiful place in Palawan because of its incredibly awesome seascape. It is considered to be a magical place because of its ageless towering marble cliffs and crystal clear water with white sandy beaches that is the reason why it is being referred to as an exceptional paradise. There are a total of 50 beaches to discover in El Nido and trippers feel that they are in a secluded private beach. Aside from the beautiful beaches, you can also experience enchanting lagoons with tranquil turquoise- green water caves that can take you to hidden beaches, truly a diverse variety of wildlife. For adventurous people, El Nido is the perfect place to be and considered to be the top destination for island hoppers. Aside from the beautiful beaches, another popular activity in El Nido is scuba diving. With over 30 dive sites, diving enthusiast will surely take the plunge into the sea.

Another tourist destination in Palawan is the very famous Underground River. To get there from Puerto Princessa, you will take a 3 hour trip by land to reach Sabang and a 20 minutes travel on an outrigger boat. One of the unique features of the river is that it flows directly into the sea. The lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The area represents a habitat for biodiversity conservation. Swimming is not allowed in the river though life jackets and helmets are required for safety purposes. When you get inside the cave, you would see different species of bats hanging from the ceiling, fast asleep. Their presence was obvious due to the pungent odor of guano, or bat dung, close to the mouth of the cave. The Underground River in Puerto Princesa is the longest explored underground river in the world. You’ll have to get a special permit to explore the rest of the river. The tour inside the cave will last for 45 minutes.
